Purple biotechnology addresses intellectual property in science, overcoming ethical, social and environmental dilemmas related to gene editing and transgenics, promoting innovation and human values. In Colombia, regulated by the Industrial Property Law, it protects biotechnological inventions in fields such as agriculture, medicine and energy. A key challenge is to foster innovation, encouraging research for social benefit. However, biotechnology can generate controversy.
