El lhc: una fábrica de partículas para medir

Resumo

La física de partículas siempre ha sido un tema de interés no sólo para los científicos sino también para el público en general. Conocer cómo está compuesta la materia y cómo es la naturaleza del Universo han sido temas que el hombre siempre se ha cuestionado. En este artículo describiremos brevemente el Modelo Estándar, teoría que explica las propiedades e interacciones entre las partículas elementales, y cómo se hace para medirlas experimentalmente. En particular, nos concentraremos en la descripción del LHC y uno de sus detectores ATLAS, con el cual el grupo Experimental de Altas Energías de la Universidad Antonio Nariño tiene colaboración.
