La bacteria fitopatógena Xanthomonas phaseoli pv. manihotis (Xpm) es el agente causal de la bacteriosis vascular de la yuca, enfermedad que se ha reportado en todas las regiones donde se cultiva yuca. Xpm se ha considerado un patógeno de riesgo medio debido a los altos índices de diversidad y a las altas tasas de migración que presentan sus poblaciones. Tradicionalmente, para la determinación del comportamiento patogénico de aislamientos de Xpm se han empleado plantas de yuca obtenidas a partir de estacas y crecidas en invernadero.
