Abstract

The quality of water is of great importance for people's health: in addition to the chemical and physical substances present in water that contribute to its affectation and prevalence, the water is a vehicle for microorganisms that can be pathogenic to humans. In the winter season, due to the increase in water flow caused by precipitation, these factors can be altered by contact with rainwater, which often contains a high acid load, and by surface runoff that transports sediments and organic matter present in the soil.

For this reason, based on the test protocols demonstrated by IDEAM, the study carried out the analysis and characterization of the water quality in the Lagunas Encantadas Civil Society Nature Reserve and in the Vereda El Carmen, located in the páramo de La Russia, in order to determine the risk index to which the inhabitants of the area are exposed.
